But the Fed is monetizing the debt with the rate cut. Todays sueddn spike in the currency index is just a position cover and profit taking. (Sell on roomer buy on fact) Once the monetary aggregates enter the system price on non deflating assets will increase as the fed requires repayment. Since commodities are the last working investment they will be the target of investors. Thus Hyperinflation with real goods.

about tongue-in-cheek not cnmoig across well. But I hear that criticism about progressive viewpoints all the time, and all the way up the scale to angry and hate-filled etc, and have never understood what it was those making that complaint were talking about.Maybe bernie can clarify a bit..?BTW, thanks, Michael for pointing Things Break out, I will watch it with interest!

I did not in fact find the Lomborg piece to be excessive. My coemnmt about excess was more general.Though I still retain some doubt that Lomborg is doing all his damage willfully, Things and John Mashey over at Things' have certainly made a strong case that his arguments are polemical rather than investigative.

I have a hypothesis that might exialpn this disagreement. Roger has a book coming out in which he decomposes the Kaya Identity and concludes that it is technology that will allow us to reduce emissions, not conservation. Unfortunately for Roger, this is conventional wisdom. I even wrote that in the book I published in 2006.Thus, Roger needs to generate some opposition to his thesis, otherwise he won't look like an "iconoclast" and a "skeptical heretic." So when Roger reads Krugman's article, Roger finds an opportunity to manufacture some dissent and makes the claims that Krugman doesn't understand the role of technology.Of course, anyone who reads the article can see that that claim is absurd. Krugman, along with everybody else who has a brain cell, understands that it is technology that is going to bail us out of the climate change problem. The fundamental debate is over what kind of policy to enact that most effectively leads to the development and deployment of this new technology.I suspect that over the next few months, we're going to see many, many posts from Roger claiming that so-and-so doesn't understand the role of technology. Whenever you read that, just remember that Roger has a new book coming out and he wants to sell a few copies.
